Remember, every child is different and will develop and learn new skills at their own pace!
Policy
I am more than happy to assist you in toilet training your child. However in order to be in compliance with DHS requirements that toilet training is punishment free and free of power struggles, intensive training will not happen at daycare until a child is showing signs of readiness
Signs of Readiness:
Shows Interest
Can understand and follow simple directions
Consistently dry at 2 hour intervals
Can dress and undress themselves
Ability to recognize the urge to go
Has a dry diaper after naps
Dislikes staying in a wet or soiled diaper
Tells someone when they are urinating or having a bowel movement
In order to make sure the children’s environment remains a clean one, your child cannot wear normal underwear while in my care without an absorbent waterproof cover until they have established a successful bathroom routine for both urine and feces, are able to communicate their need to use the restroom (Must be accident free for 2 weeks prior to underwear in daycare), and be able to toilet independently if I am unable to attend to them immediately.
If a child has 2 accidents in one day they will be placed in diapers.
Children who are toilet training must be sent in clothes that they can get out of quickly! Part of toilet training is toileting independently. Please do not send potty training children in overalls, tights, rompers, jeans, pants with zippers/buttons/snaps or any other clothing they cannot independently remove.
I will monitor a child’s potty training and review their bowel and bladder habits through Daily Connect. Children will not be forced to use the toilet.
Once training has been established, children will not be accompanied to the restroom unless they request assistance.
